The Renowned Musician Calls On Public Help to Send Palestinian Solidarity Song to UK Christmas No 1.
A campaign is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The campaign aims to send support to people in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
A Possibility for Solidarity and an "Chart Upset"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a chance to support Palestinians this festive season. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“That would be amazing if that happened, yes,” he commented. “I wouldn't be completely disappointed if it doesn't manage to, Christmas singles are a thing unto themselves.”
Powerful Theme of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the version of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's defiant core message.
“It has a very special place for a lot of people,” Barghouti explained. “It’s basically saying that I would rather die in dignity than spend my life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we desire to exist a life of dignity that we merit as a people.”
Production History and Featured Artists
The song was recorded after a solidarity show held in September. Originally intended to be captured during the live event, the performance was shelved during the concert due to time constraints.
The impressive roster of artists featured on Lullaby encompasses a group of prominent voices from the music world. All were part of the September show, which managed to collect a substantial amount for relief efforts.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was produced by a team of talented individuals. The single showcases a combination of the original Arabic with freshly written English words.
The team running the project have stated that their aim is to generate maximum funds for a charitable pot. These donations will be allocated to Palestinian causes through an non-profit partner.
“We haven't set a specific target,” a representative said. “We aim for the maximum achievable. Obviously, the higher the total, the greater the impact. All proceeds are directed out to Gaza.”
The reality in the territory was characterized as its profound destruction, with a vast majority of buildings described as in ruins or severely impacted.
“In that context, a handful of millions is unlikely to make a massive dent. But I think what truly matters is first of all spreading knowledge of this plight and showing the human dimension of the story.”
The track is launching at the end of the week. Additionally, a video of the benefit event will be made ready to watch on a digital service from mid-December.
