The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL side.
Her exit from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering momentum.
Recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
