The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.
It might not have been at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the commencement of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a long and happy life without fear.”
The event, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a first responder, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people shouting “six-seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently made “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A New Life
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: happy, varied, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Annually, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
