The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Discloses He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... For Now.

The acclaimed writer-producer never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would turn into a breakout success. “The viewers have been incredible,” Gilligan says. “I was surprised by the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

Now that Season 1 of the hit series reaching its finale—and the next chapter already in development—Gilligan and his team reflected on the audience reaction and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.

Regarding the Incredible Fan Response

One could easily to get sidetracked by the rampant praise and audience predictions about Pluribus. The creator is striving to avoid both.

“It's like being force fed something incredibly sweet and being tickled to death,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I hear about it anecdotally, and that's on purpose. Never in my life searched for my own name online, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would fall into and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Despite trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We don't try to tailor anything,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not influenced by online forums.”

“It's wiser to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan concludes.

The Big Question: Does Vince Gilligan See the Finale of Pluribus?

Considering the creative staff aren’t being guided by fan response, can we assume they have mapped out how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… with some caveats.

“There are some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” he states. “however, we remain prepared to throw out a solid concept for a better idea. That philosophy has guided us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we find a more perfect path and I imagine we will be doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.

“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and the characters are inside it,” Smith quips, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Then again, why not reference the classics?

“I want Carol to wake up in bed with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is currently available on the streaming service.
