Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's expected for questions to be raised about his position after a further heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in 12 games, representing the club's worst streak since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got plenty of support from above,” the coach stated.
“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win obviously but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that people question you.”
He continued, “I am OK with my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “In the normal discussions I feel the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this game yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Problems and Player Response
Slot lamented recurring weaknesses from his team in their Champions League loss, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the words.”
He added, “It's difficult because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a phase of this nature with performances so bad.”
Jones stated, “But we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as it is taken away, we'll continue to compete.”
“Our aim is to help the side return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”
“But right now, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
