Iran Claims Assault on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Amid Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Bahrain, as the country executed missile attacks throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and continuing offensive targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity close to the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any impact is unclear and the US has not commented.
Regional Interceptions
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - stated they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck sites associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the government.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military reported it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates stated that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses engaged the projectiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," the statement continued.
It said debris landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some property damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
